About
collective publishing and critical arts
from Ukraine and beyond
From weapon semantics to peace agreements, from wilted flowers to simplified landscapes, Solomiya Studio serves as a space for critical reflection and mutual interest, addressing contemporary concerns, cultural transformations, and the role of art in times of war. Through a diverse program of performances, installations, panel discussions, and publishing projects, Solomiya Studio tackles urgent questions surrounding various forms of violence. Ranging from colonial violence and ecocide to the fragility of peace agreements and the rise of far-right extremism in Germany, power relations and their misuse are discussed, departing from Russia’s ongoing military invasion of Ukraine.
Beyond its rich program of events, Solomiya Studio welcomes visitors at any time throughout the day to enjoy a cup of tea and explore the exclusive festival library, featuring a curated selection of books and magazines.
A festival by Solomiya Magazine
curated by Ivanna Kozachenko, Sebastian Wells, Andrii Ushytskyi and Vsevolod Kazarin
Solomiya Studio is an idea from Solomiya Magazine, which was founded in April 2022 in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. From visual art to personal stories, the magazine features the work of emerging and established artists from Ukraine and beyond, reflecting on an environment shaped by ongoing imperial aggression. Designed by Kollektiv Scrollan, Solomiya is proud to be printed vegan and is published by SHIFT BOOKS, a Berlin- based independent publisher voicing discussions on gender, political, and cultural issues.
